BIM and Virtual Reality, 3D Modelling for All
We use Archicad and Vectorworks, highly advanced software with the capacity for BIM (Building Information Modelling).
What is BIM?
BIM is a different way of designing a building using a 3D computer model with elements such as walls, windows, doors and furniture connected to a database. It makes it simple to provide schedules and detailed information in a very concise form. BIM has many advantages over a more traditional approach 2D approach:
It's a great tool for communication between all parties involved in a construction process. The design can be discussed in an informed way and potential problems become visible at an early stage.
It is possible to see the design from any perspective and to view sections through the planned construction.
At the technical design stage it is simple to extract schedules from the model, in order to provide contractors with quantities, for example.
It is easy to calculate how energy efficient a construction will be.
With the use of Virtual Reality goggles, the 3D model can be 'brought to life'; it's possible to look around a potential new space long before any building work begins.
