We use Archicad and Vectorworks, highly advanced software with the capacity for BIM (Building Information Modelling).

What is BIM?

BIM is a different way of designing a building using a 3D computer model with elements such as walls, windows, doors and furniture connected to a database. Those systems are for a much longer time in use in the Automobile, Aeroplane industries. It makes it simple to provide schedules and detailed information in a very concise form. BIM has many advantages over a more traditional approach 2D approach:

  • It's a great tool for communication between all parties involved in a construction process. The design can be discussed in an informed way and potential problems become visible at an early stage.

  • It is possible to see the design from any perspective and to view sections through the planned construction.

  • At the technical design stage it is simple to extract schedules from the model, in order to provide contractors with quantities, for example.

  • It is easy to calculate how energy efficient a construction will be.

  • With the use of Virtual Reality goggles, the 3D model can be 'brought to life'; it's possible to look around a potential new space long before any building work begins.

  • It is a great tool to control cost. Because all elements or changes of a building are visible and also recorded in a database cost can be at a concept stage easier estimated and later in a tender process detailed shown. A design can be amended at the design stages to suit the cost avoiding this during the construction phase.
